Today is the day that I put on my very first bespoke suit and it was amazing. Luigi said that the first fitting is really for the tailor, more so than for the client. He said the second fitting is where the real magical moment is experienced. But this felt great to me. We have always read that when you go bespoke for the first time, you will never go back to your off the rack suits and I know for a fact now that this is a true statement. How can you? Why would you?

We hosted Luigi Solito from Sartoria Solito Napoli in Miami this weekend. In addition to the wonderful experience of seeing a master tailor in action and becoming part of one his masterpieces it was also great getting to know him as a person. Luigi is one of the nicest people you will meet and forget about feeling self-conscious being one of his customers. He is a married father of two and loves the simple life in spite of the fact that he is now a world traveler who works together with his father cutting and producing every suit that is ordered from their house. You feel the closeness in the way he talks about his family which is typical of most Italian families.

Since I have already put together my list of the new bespoke wardrobe that I want, it has been hard to resist ordering too much too fast. Luigi has been great at guiding me through the whole process. On this first order I wanted a medium dark grey and Luigi steered me toward a solid grey rather than a pattern, which makes sense for overall versatility. I also ordered a pair of cream slacks. I can tell they are really going to be nice. Once I put that first suit on however, I could not resist commissioning my second order, a navy blue suit, also solid, and a complimentary pair of grey wool slacks. I feel that, thanks to Luigi’s advice, this will be an amazing start to a great collection and will offer me a lot of usage. I have every intention to live in these clothes.

Make sure to keep an eye open for the next Solito Trunk show in South Florida on his website:

I am pretty sure this is just the beginning of attracting many great artisans to this beautiful part of the world.
