Hydration

Since you are made up of mostly water, it is no wonder that this recommendation ranks high on my priority list. Drink a full glass of water first thing in the morning. If you don’t already know the importance of hydration, here it is. It is extremely important for everything that you need and want. My wife, Dr. Bindu Sachin Mayi, has a PhD in microbiology. She is Indian, from India. Part of her tradition is to take my name as her middle name, which used to be her father’s name. Pretty cool tradition. Bindu teaches medical students at Nova Southeastern University in Davie, Florida, who are learning to go on to become doctors. She made good friends with four of these students who have been over to the house many times and have become like family. Their names are Kelly, Ravi, Michael and Will. Kelly read the first few pages of my book “You’re Fat, She’s Not” when it was a work in progress, and unbeknownst to me went home and started drinking a glass of water every morning. She reported that she could really notice the difference and felt the immediate benefits of this simple practice.

 I have been drinking a glass of water first thing in the morning for many, many years now and know that it is one of the healthiest parts of my routine. I fill up a glass at night and put it on the nightstand by my bed. I wake up, do the morning toe wiggle, flip over and do the child pose and then go straight for my glass of water, finishing the whole glass. Then I go and fill the glass up again, add a splash of apple cider vinegar and drink a second glass.

In 2012, I was diagnosed with a sluggish thyroid and have to take Synthroid medication every morning, which I wash down with my glass of water. But I was drinking the water long before that. Your medication or vitamins can be a great reminder though. Keep them together in the morning and you will never forget either. 

If you think about all the benefits of drinking water, which include cleansing, purifying, hydrating and its assistance with elimination, it makes sense to start your day out with all of that wonderful goodness. My body loves it and my morning glasses are just the first of many glasses of water during the day. 

I don’t know if there are some of you out there who would have an aversion to drinking a glass of water in the morning, so I don’t know what to advise you to overcome that if you are one of those people, but find a way. If taste helps, some healthy suggestions are adding honey and/or lemon to your water and thereby enticing the palate with some taste mixed with health. Or you can try the Bragg’s family power drink of a glass of water with their brand of apple cider vinegar and honey in the morning. The recipe is on the back of the Bragg’s Apple Cider Vinegar bottle, as well as in my book. Be it simple water or more, I insist that you drink a glass in the morning, because it is very important for your next line of business.
